Newton Abbot Security Trust
In May 2014 Teignbridge District Council and the police withdrew funding for the maintenance, support and management of the town’s CCTV infrastructure.
Fearing the dismantling of this award-winning initiative and recognising the importance of CCTV to the safety and security of the business and residential communities, Newton Abbot Town Council partnered with the then Newton Abbot and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce and local department store Austins, to deliver the service by way of a trust.
Newton Abbot Security Trust (NAST) security staff are not employed by NATC or the Chamber of Trade, instead NAST is funded by an annual contribution of £16k from NATC and from subscriptions from businesses to the radio link scheme which is also part of NAST.
Administration of the Trust and its finances is carried out by Austins personnel. Other income is derived from security services, which are provided by NAST to Market Walk Shopping centre and to other local towns.
