Victorian Evening - Wednesday 7th December 2016

Victorian Evening Wednesday 7th December 2016 saw the annual Victorian Evening take place in Newton Abbot in the Market Square.  It is a well known event now in the South Devon area and everyone looks forward to the charity evening with the Victorian atmosphere.

Elfic the Jester returned for the third year and entertained both children and adults alike in the Market Square throughout the evening.

Once again the Market Square was jam packed with local charity stalls selling their wares, from tree decorations, homemade cakes, sweets and buns to Christmas cards and tombola’s.

This year the ‘best dressed stall’ trophy went to ‘Bradley Barton PTFA’ they received a trophy as well as a cheque for £50, congratulations to all the efforts they had put into making their stall look so appealing.

Stagecoach Choir entertained shoppers with their carol singing of festive songs and Victorian Classic during the evening from 6.45 pm and 7.15pm.

The stilt walking policeman was also in the town centre entertaining the general public throughout the evening. Children were also entertained by a gentleman on a penny farthing who was making balloon models for the children, Spectrum Orchestra and a fire juggling show in Courtenay Street, along with stalls selling hot food in Courtenay Street.

Santa was in residence in his Clock Tower grotto this year and he will also be there again on Wednesday 14th December from 6.30pm-8.30pm, Saturday 17th December from 11am-1pm and Wednesday 21st December from 6.30pm-8.30pm. Why not come and visit him.  Entry is a donation to the Mayors chosen charities which this year which is ‘The Memory Café’ and ‘Newton Abbot Community Transport’.

Kelly Burridge, the Events Co-ordinator for the Town Council said ‘What a fantastic evening the Victorian event was.  The weather was mild and the rain held off.  Charities made a fantastic Victorian effort and every stall looked great.  Winners of the ‘Best Dressed’ stall this year went to Bradley Barton PTFA.  They won a £50 cheque and a trophy.  Entertainment throughout the evening drew large crowds, plus there was a last minute visit from BBC Spotlight.  Thank you to everyone that came along, took part and helped us celebrate our first Wednesday Christmas event in Newton Abbot.  Don’t forget the Lantern Parade & Christmas Street Fayre on the 14th and the Mayor’s Carol Service & Christmas Street Fayre on the 21st December.’
