Official Opening of Buckland Skatepark

Lantern Parade - Wednesday 14th December 2016

LANTERN PARADE EVENT LIGHTS UP THE STREETS OF NEWTON ABBOT Newton Abbot town centre was bursting with excitement on Wednesday 14th December thanks to the lantern parade in the town.  Approx. 200 pupils from Bearnes, Wolborough, All Saints, Decoy, Bradley Barton, Haytor View, Highweek & St Joseph’s Primary Schools took pride in parading their colourful Christmas lanterns through the streets of Newton Abbot towards the Clock Tower.  The theme this year was ‘A Child is Born’ and the lanterns varied from goats and camels, kings and angels, soldiers and stars, chickens and sheep and much more.  A big thank you to local artist Tony Gee and other members of the Creation Myth Puppets who were able to make this fantastic event possible once again, working in partnership with Newton Abbot Town Council.

Victorian Evening - Wednesday 7th December 2016

Victorian Evening Wednesday 7th December 2016 saw the annual Victorian Evening take place in Newton Abbot in the Market Square.  It is a well known event now in the South Devon area and everyone looks forward to the charity evening with the Victorian atmosphere.

Christmas Lights Switch On - Saturday 26th November 2016

Newton Abbot Town Council organised a day of music and entertainment for all the family, to celebrate the switching on of the towns Christmas lights. During the day Coombeshead College students performed live music to the members of public and free face painting and balloon modelling was on offer to the public.  Breeze radio station were also in town with their ‘Safe Cracker’ event, offering the members of the public a chance to win a car.

Armistice Day 2016

Armistice Service held today at the War Memorial.  We will be holding a Remembrance Service on Sunday, with a parade from the town centre with a marching band.

Town Criers Competition - Saturday 10th September 2016

Newton abbot once again played host to members of the Ancient & Honourable Guild of Town Crier’s at this year’s town crier’s competition held on Saturday 10th September.

Autumn Fayre - Saturday 3rd September 2016

A successful day all round for the 2016 Autumn Fayre despite the inclement weather throughout the day.  The day started with a parade of the homemade pasties, kindly baked and donated by ‘Homebake’ who are located in the Indoor Market, which included the Mayor of Newton Abbot Liz Roberts and Deputy Mayor Ann Jones, Local MP Anne Marie Morris, local Town crier and escort and Members of the Court Leet.  The cart itself was pushed by the onion sellers and the onion man.  The parade started off at Newton Abbot Town Hall at 10.30 am and went through Queen Street, Courtenay Street, Bank Street, Market Square and Walk and in Courtenay Street.

Newton Abbot skies light up for the Queen’s 90th Birthday beacon lighting

On Thursday 21st April, Newton Abbot Town Council lit three beacons within the town as part of the national event to help celebrate the Queen’s Birthday 90th birthday.
