Garden Oasis opens
Newton Abbot's Victoria Gardens opened to the public in November 2013, the winding plot between Hero Bridge and Albany Street bieng skilfully laid out with 13 new trees, lawns, planted flower beds, contemporary seating, paving, lighting and three glass panels for better views of the flanking River Lemon.
The aim of the project was to create a "tranquil garden oasis" in the town centre where people can gather for a quiet moment, a chat with friends or a welcome meal break.
The work was undertaken by leading commercial landscaping contractors Blakedown, specialists in local authority and education contracts, using a "restrained high quality and coordinated palette of paving materials." It is being funded by the Town Council and is the first project to be delivered from a 20 item "wish list" in the Newton Abbot and District Community Plan.
